Job description

Haut Lac International Bilingual School has a position open for a Residential Tutor to help provide outstanding pastoral care for their growing number of boarding students. The successful applicant will benefit from board and lodging in return for help in the boarding house.

Person Specification:

Haut Lac International Bilingual School offers an outstanding international bilingual educational experience to all its pupils. To deliver this in the boarding community we appoint excellent members of staff to help our boarders live, learn and develop during their schooling and into adulthood. The posts are generally residential, with accommodation provided in the boarding house. As such the post can also carry potential overnight responsibility if any boarders are ill. The post would be of particular interest to members of staff who have experience of, or would like to gain further pastoral boarding experience.

The role:

Working in an international boarding environment is one of the most rewarding roles in education. Living with young people from a variety of cultures and nationalities and helping to coach, mentor and nurture them on a daily basis is a privilege. It is also challenging and hard work, but in return you will gain priceless experience and responsibility across a wide range of situations and scenarios. You will be responsible for the house while you are on duty, though you will also always have someone at the end of the phone should you require advice or help in certain situations.

You will need to ensure that you are fully conversant with Haut Lac International Bilingual School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection policies, and that you have an ongoing overview of all the Boarder’s welfare. You will ensure that all safeguarding concerns and incidents are recorded, followed up and passed on to the relevant members of staff.

The House Tutors are responsible for the boarders in their care. They need to provide for the safety, good discipline and pastoral wellbeing of all the boarders in the House.

Necessary knowledge, skills and experience:

Ability to supervise the care of young people in a residential setting contributing to their social, emotional, educational and physical development.

A professional, yet caring and compassionate approach to dealing with young people.

Sound communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
